attends,attends,attends

‘Watashi no Gakudan’ {‘My Orchestra’}
by Kokushoku Sumire

The first act  moderato  4/4 (four fourths)
You are an insincere pianist
Oh noise that will not go away
make the flamingo of heresy drink up the sound
As aged fingers confess
Ah, my orchestra, gold baton dancing in midair

Playing discordant sounds, resurrecting you, my beloved
Ah, feelings slumbering on a lake bed that do not wane though I wait every night

Ah, absorbed in my wretched life in the musical score of memory

The second act  allegretto  7/8 (seven eighths)

You are an unreliable violinist

These limbs are a quartet dancing in empty space

Vibrato in search of memory
My heart is sharp, my body is flat
attends,attends,attends
Ah, my orchestra, gold baton dancing in midair

Playing discordant sounds, oh companion I had faith in, return!

Oh world, in the brilliance of a diamond

I who kneels down to the world that dances
around the six empty spaces am an overly curious tourist
from four novels of heresy

This outcome that runs away from spring*
striking a full stop, for how long……?

*  This grammatical form of this “spring” is actually closer to “springness”, and it’s hard to know exactly what this means, as “spring” can refer to the season and new beginnings, or to the prime of one’s life, or to adolescence or sexuality.
