Play

‘Karatachi’ {‘Trifoilate Orange’}*
by Kiyoharu

A blade was quietly slipped into my heart,
Listening, content to remain silent

What was there yesterday was soon a phantom,
wings the same as the one I’ll see tomorrow

Oh tears, steadily dry up and come to a end!
I want to backtrack and solve this

What was there yesterday was a sweet phantom,
the same as the one I’ll see tomorrow, you see

The trifoliate orange flowers opened, now the flowers opened here,
I couldn’t accept the reason this hole was opened up in my future,
The trifoliate orange opened its flowers, opened its flowers only now,
As I tracingly touched you with my fingers you did not tremble
Play・・・

The past cannot be so tragically snatched away,
it’s just the same as remembering tomorrow

The trifoliate orange flowers opened, now the flowers opened here,
My destination is a mutual love adorned with flowers,
The trifoliate orange flowers opened, now the flowers opened here,
But the future where I bought the wrong flowers didn’t fall apart

* The title refers to Poncirus trifoliata, a plant related to citrus and native to Asia that unfortunately has no simple, nice sounding English equivalent.

  1. Reading about trifoliate orange in Wikipedia, the Spanish equivalent name is “naranja espinosa” what means “thorny orange”.It’s said it’s grown for hedgerows due to its thorns.
Also, “trifoliate” comes from Latin, tri-, three; foliatus,-a,-um (adjetive of folium, leaf); three leaves🙂
I’ve just realised how useful studying Latin language is😄
    hope it helps!

btw, somehow, Kiyoharu’s songs seem to sound way better in these grey autumn/fall days🙂

thank u and awesome translation as always!!😉
