‘Kureha’ {‘Crimson Leaves’}
by Onmyouza

Yes, the searching demoness
is a mountain bird no longer able to fly away
from the present unfounded rumors, this treatment of herself,
the heart listens to this voice,*

Ah, the momentary dream cracks,
As for the little crow it dies by a single blade**

※Before you point those hands
I ask that you choose your words,
you who serve the emperor,
at the very least until the final offering is made***※

To all you who obstinately swagger left and right
this voice is an incantation of destruction,
an instigation of thought,
the master was once a beloved person*

Ah, alienation is merely a single word**
The cold winter wind requires no leave to blow

(※Repeat)

Ah, the momentary dream cracks,
whether a little crow or a short sword, come forth!

Before I raise both hands up
I grant an offering of this hair
as an apology for this separation
to this child who has exhausted their tears

* Although the kanji for “feeling/emotion” is written Kuroneko sings the word for “heart”.
** The word for “single blade” sounds the same as “people”, so one could alternately translate this line as “it dies at the hands of people”.
*** This offering refers to the tribute one offers to a deity or the deceased’s spirit, or to someone before they depart.
* The word for “person” is sung, but the word for “man” is written in the lyrics.
** The characters used to spell this word are slightly different, giving it the connotation of a “solution by estrangement”.
