ASCENDEAD MASTER ~ Versailles

「ASCENDEAD MASTER」
Versailles

‘ASCENDEAD MASTER’
by Versailles

This bow that can never be restored, never return,
was embraced and awakened amidst the darkening clouds,

Loving one another, drawing closer to each other,
a fate we pluck unknowingly,

People are all defiant sinners who rock the ark,
Come now, burn away the loneliness with those hands,

Revolution is beautiful, a serenade bursting into flames,
I’ll bite into your sinful neck,
Burning so crimson, so strongly, so violently it’s dangerous,
I’ll suck out your sins and ugliness,

A fog hangs over the black sea,
the people rowed out and god sank them,

Ah…tell me, my mother rose!
I can no longer forgive, is this also my punishment?

I am a voyager of the crossing ark,
the ruler of loneliness together with eternity,

Revolution is beautiful, a serenade bursting into flames,
I’ll bite into your sinful neck,
Burn loneliness to death!  Strongly, violently burning,
I’ll suck out your sins and ugliness!

I am a sinful voyager who got off the ark,
Yes…an eternal sinner

Revolution is beautiful, a serenade bursting into flames,
I’ll bite into your sinful neck,
Embracing so passionately, so strongly, so violently it’s dangerous,
I’ll suck out your sins and ugliness,

On this deserted altar
I will become god

Ah…don’t all people desire it? Miserable, eternal life…

Exchange hatred and conflict for loneliness,
I’ll suck it out for you now, that’s it, close your eyes

  1. As always, thank you for translating!
    I’ll be using this one.🙂
I was also thinking of subbing Hyena (I really liked the lyrics, heh), so I’ll see if I can do that too. Again, thank you very much!

  2. Thanks to you too for always making such great videos. ^_^
I think a lot of people will be happy to see ‘ASCENDEAD MASTER’ subbed, the song seems to be very popular…it’s actually one of my most viewed posts of all time. 0_0

  3. “人は漕ぎ出し 神は沈めた – the people rowed out and god was sunk”
Did god sink or did god sink the people?

  4. You know, I’ve been wondering about which is correct for a while because it’s not 100% clear. The verb is transitive, which means someone is doing the sinking, but there’s no を to indicate the object. Looking at it again, I think the most logical interpretation is that god sank the people.

  5. If shizumeta is transitive, then it is “God sank the people”. ‘God was sunk’ would be ‘Kami ga (not wa) shizumeta’.

  6. Well, not quite. You can’t tell that by the wa/ga distinction alone because even if it was wa, depending on the context (or lack thereof) “God” could still be the subject.

Rather I think it’s the verb form that matters. If it were ‘Kami ga shizumareta’ it would be ‘God was sunk’, but ‘Kami ga shizumeta’ means “God sank” as in God is the one doing the sinking (since it’s transitive).

When talking about submerging oneself you’d probably use shizumu with wa/ga, and shizumeru only with wo, therefore the interpretation that seems to make the most sense is that wa is being used contrastingly to mark the subject (God) who is doing the action (sinking) to the other subject in the sentence, and the repetition of this second subject (the people) is dropped.
